5 WAYS TO IMPROVE WORK LIFE BALANCE

1. IT’S A MARATHON AND NOT A SPRINT.

Whether you are a business owner, student, or have a regular 9-5 job this is for you! Our generation seems to struggle with patience because we can easily attain mostly anything and everything at the palm of our hands.

What happens when success is something that you want so bad but you aren’t patient about it? If you remember anything from this blog, remember this the right thing, at the wrong time can be more of a burden than a blessing. We need to be conditioned and we need to be ready for all the challenges that come with success. If your character can’t sustain your “status,” than you may just lose yourself in the process.

2. DISCOVER YOUR NON NEGOTIABLES AND STICK TO IT

What is important to you? 

Always remember that what is important to you may not be important to other people. That’s why in success, we must always think about what is important to YOU?! Some people want to make a million dollars and others don’t care they just want to be comfortable. The person who wants a million dollars is going to have to sacrifice things that you may not be willing to sacrifice. Make a list of things that are important to you and do not budge. Put them on your schedule and stick to it. It could be something simple like getting your nails done weekly, getting a massage, or happy hour with your girls mid week.

3. DON’T BE AFRAID TO SAY NO

Saying no is not selfish, it’s self care

As I was closing out my second year in business, this is what i was fighting to learn. I grew up in a culture where you’re supposed to say yes and do things for your family, friends, and people. Even though i strongly still believe in giving back I knew i needed to start setting some boundaries. How are you supposed to take care of anyone else, if you aren’t taking good care of yourself? I began to tune into my feelings, build my self confidence and make self care a priority. Once i began on this journey, I found myself becoming more focused on my why, the vision i once had for my business came back and became more clear and i was able to be more productive.

4. DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS

We live in a social media, internet driven world where we have access to other people’s lives through their lenses and our screen. Your perception of people is only based on what they allow you to see.  It is SO important to understand that no one is YOU. Only you can do what you do in this world. It’s only when we dig deep into what it is that makes us feel insecure and deal with it that this becomes easier. We need to train our minds to compare less and simply become grateful for what you do have.  Get encouraged by other people’s wins and use that as motivation for your own aspirations. When you begin to fully embrace your own journey than you will break the chain of comparison.

5. REFLECT ON YOUR WINS

Believe in yourself

Take 20 mins a month to look back and reflect on all that you accomplished in the previous month. More often than not, we forget how we started and how far we’ve come. Use those wins to drive you to keep moving forward and improving. Take that class, read that book, network with people and keep thriving! While you are reflecting for the month, make a list of the things you accomplished, make note of the things that fell short and strategize for the future! I promise, your mind will shift and you will have no option but to believe in yourself!


Drink some coffee while you plan; Eat some snacks while you work; Hang with friends when needed and take care of your mental health. If you can’t be your best self for you, you can’t be your best self for those you care about.  Good luck on your future endeavours!
